Happy Adopt-a-Greyhound Month!

April is national adopt-a-greyhound month. Believe it or not, over 7000 greyhounds are destroyed each year because they retire from racetracks and have nowhere to go.

They’re very gentle dogs and they’re easy to fall in love with. Many get along reasonably well with cats or other small dogs. And they don’t even necessarily need a lot of space to run around.

Check out this really cute greyhound adoption video!

If you’ve grown interested in adopting a greyhound after watching this video then here are a few resources that can help you make the right decision. First, visit “Before You Adopt.” This page will give you straight talk about what it means to adopt a greyhound. It will talk about all of the good things about greyhounds, but it doesn’t pull any punches when it comes to the tricky parts, too. This decision is important, so make it with your eyes wide open.

Here is another link that offers similar information, but from a slightly different perspective.

If adopting a greyhound is not right for you at this time then there are still other ways that you can help. You might consider purchasing a wall calendar from Adopt-a-Greyhound to support their mission, or donating to Greyhound Cancer Research on the same site.

Remember, greyhounds need lots of love and attention. It helps to have a qualified pet sitter on call.
